Professional Life

My interests for as long as I can remember have always been technical in nature.  My career has reflected this since joining the U.S. Air Force just after high school in 1985.  Technical positions fit my personality because I like challenges that require a methodical process to solve a problem or fill a need.  Situations that require unconventional thinking and unique solutions will endlessly keep my attention until solved.  Throughout my career I have paid attention to my social skills as well.

Alternator Swap

Ok, so I blew the alternator on our Atomic 4.  Note to self - don't turn off the battery switch with the motor running.  Well since the boat is on a budget, meaning there’s little or no money for the boat, shelling out $200-600 dollars for a replacement just isn’t in the cards.  Checking the dimensions I see that the mounts are the same as a Delco-Remy 10si or 12si.  These are probably the cheapest alternators sold.  On top of that dad had a 12si in the garage attic left over from my teen “hot rod” days.  I had to remove a little excess metal from the bracket and add some extra wiring for t

Unplanned Overnight

So Liz and I decided to go to the boat after work one evening for a little while.  Sun's going down, it's a beautiful Thursday evening.  Well just sitting at the dock didn't quite cut it, so we decided we'd take a "short" adventure.  There was a light breeze and we figured it wouldn't take us long to sail up and around Garrett Island.  Since the winds weren't the best for sailing under the railroad bridge especially with tug traffic ahead, we fired up the motor, went under, then resumed sailing.  Well wouldn't you know the wind starts to die out, but we don't care that much, it's still not
